The Ministry of Education invited Isao Taniguchi, president of Japan’s National Institute of Technology (Kosen) to Taiwan, underscoring bilateral commitment to deepening cooperation.
During a reception for Taniguchi and his delegation July 3, Director-General Lee Yu-jiuan of the MOE’s Department of International and Cross-strait Education noted that nearly 50 vocational colleges in Taiwan have already signed memorandums of understanding with counterparts in Japan. She additionally expressed hope that Taniguchi’s visit would facilitate academic-industry collaboration in marine education and semiconductors.
Taniguchi spoke favorably about gaining insight into Taiwan’s scholarship programs targeted at international students as well as the International Industrial Talents Education Special Program, adding that he hoped more vocational college graduates from Japan would expand on their studies in Taiwan, while also welcoming students from Taiwan to do the same.
According to the MOE, the Kosen contingent’s itinerary included a trip to southern Taiwan, with visits to Kaohsiung City’s educational bureau and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, as well as National Yunlin University of Science and Technology in the western county of the same name. The ministry pledged to continue working with the Kosen to nurture in Taiwan’s youth professional expertise and a global vision. (POC-E)
